ISLAMABAD Maglia Blaise Matuidi , Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 militants and a soldier were killed in clashes and army air strike in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of North Waziristan on Saturday, an army statement said.


Inter Services Public Relations, the mouthpiece of Pakistani army, said that army aviation helicopters targeted three militants' hideouts in Ghulam Ali area of North Waziristan region, killing 12 militants and destroying the hideouts.


Four explosive-laden vehicles were also destroyed by the army helicopters Maglia Douglas Costa , said the statement.


In another incident in Boya town of the region, three militants and a soldier were killed in an armed clash during a clearance operation by Pakistani army.


In a statement, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan confirmed the Boya clash, saying that one of its senior commanders was killed in encounter with the army, Dawn TV reported.


The statement said that the commander Mohammad Hassan was recently released from an Afghan jail and was fighting against Pakistani army.


The military started operation Zarb-e-Azab Maglia Cristiano Ronaldo , an Urdu name for Prophet Muhammad's sword, in North Waziristan region on June 15 with an aim to clear the insurgent bases from the militancy- infested area.


An army statement said earlier this month that the operation claimed lives of over 1000 militants, while the military lost 82 soldiers in clashes.
